Like many restaurants, Farrell's menus have evolved and changed over the years. Most of the time the menus were printed on newsprint, which made great souvenirs for the guests. There were a couple of times (in 1976 and 1983) when regular, cardboard menus were used in the parlours. They weren't as popular, though.

From the 1966 Operations manual:

Farrell's budgets a specified percentage of its gross volume for advertising, of which a large proportion is spent on the newsprint menu which doubles as a carry-out souvenir and had major advertising impact throughout the community. Between 50,000 and 60,000 of these menus are normally taken out of the door during the first year of operation, providing material implementation for enthusiastic word-of-mouth promotion. There is no better type of advertising.
